David Halliburton
David Halliburton has been a producer, director, cinematographer/videographer and editor for over 30 years.  Born and raised in North Carolina, he has worked and lived in Nashville, Tennessee and is currently based in Houston, Texas.  Bitten by the film bug at the age of nine, he worked with his older brother and cousin to shoot a series of monster movies in their parent’s house and backyard in the 1960’s.  “At first, we didn’t know you could cut and splice the film, so several of our early masterpieces were shot in sequence, with no retakes.  The first take had to be the best one…every time!”  Graduating from N.C. State University with an engineering degree, he worked for the Walter J. Klein Company in Charlotte and their many nationally-known clients for over 6 years, winning a CINE Golden Eagle and other awards for his 16mm films.  “I directed Eddie Albert (of “Green Acres” fame) when I was in my 20’s in a film that warned the viewer of the looming danger of soil erosion on America’s farmlands.  He was so ‘into’ the subject, I had to ask him to ‘please back it off a little bit’ after a particularly vehement speech.”

While in Nashville, David created technical sales training and promotional videos for Ball Television Group.  He even shot Hank Williams Jr.’s first music video…on 1” videotape!  “Even though they’re called ‘music videos’ they all used to be shot on film (before the advent of HD digital video technology) for the better look that film gives to a project.  Hank’s ‘Queen of My Heart’ was one of the first Country music videos ever produced, and they wanted to save money…so 1” video it was!”

Calling Houston home for over 20 years, David has produced, shot and edited videos for many of the major energy companies in the area, as well as hospitals, advertising agencies, charitable organizations and others.  “I think I’m proudest of a video I produced for Astrodome, USA:  a virtual tour of the facility, telling the story of how it was built and how it became the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World,’ hosting baseball, football, basketball, boxing, rodeos, bullfighting, monster trucks, the famous Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs tennis match, and Elvis Presley. Being a fairly new transplant to Houston, I felt a lot of pressure to do the project justice, because I knew there were many people who loved that building and what it meant to the city.”

In recent years, his work is just as likely to take him to South Korea, Nigeria, Angola or Malaysia as to the Texas Gulf Coast.  David is also branching out in the video field, teaching video editing and appearing from time to time in front of the camera.  “Last summer, I was asked to be in a series of commercials for the local power company…as a videographer.  The production company shot me shooting the on-camera talent, and inter-cut that with my hand-held footage.  It worked!”
