Connie Brown
Connie Brown, writer, editor and consultant, began a career in writing and editing in 1976 and at the same time raised three children, one profoundly deaf. She was one of four moms who were responsible for getting day classes started at the Arizona School for the Deaf and the Blind in Tucson.  As a part of a larger group of parents of deaf children she participated in a phone and letter-writing campaign that culminated (with immense resistance) in the major television networks providing captions for the hearing impaired as a part of regular programming.  Ms. Brown is fluent in manual sign language and knowledgeable about special educational requirements for a range of childhood and adult disabilities.

In the summer of 1996 Connie went to Pompeii, she attended the Anglo-American Archaeological Field School, Pompei Scavi, Pompei, Italy.  She called her adventure “My Pompeii”

She had been drawn to that compelling place for 50 years when as a child of nine she first read in Richard Halliburton’s The Complete  Book of Marvels, the story of the sudden and terrifying explosion of Mt. Vesuvius and the swift and total obliteration of the cities and suburbs within its awesome reach.

For 34 glorious, sweaty, calloused, days she poked around in back alleys and behind closed gates.  And for 34 hot and noisy nights she slept (or didn’t) on a thin, inadequate air mattress, in a cramped and airless tent.  And every moment she regarded as a privilege to work and sweat and hurt in “My Pompeii”

Halliburton’s book inspired Connie to fulfill her dream, it took her 50 years to get there, but she never lost the dream.

As a writer, editor and consultant, Ms. Brown has created or developed numerous projects from concept through production and marketing.  Some projects include:
